Un petit tour dans la ville encore endormie avant de prendre possession de notre voiture de location.

La voiture, une Atos, est plutôt pourrie. De toute évidence, c'est la voiture perso du patron, elle a un kilométrage impressionnant et a des égratignures de partout. L'essentiel est que l'on puisse faire le tour de l'île avec sans tomber en panne et si on ajoute des égratignures, au moins, cela ne se verra pas.
Nous commençons par le nord de l'île et les paysages sont splendides. L'île est peu peuplée et on ne rencontre pas grand monde sur la route.

Les vues sur la mer sont époustouflantes.
L'île est très montagneuse et rocailleuse, elle a un charme fou.
Quelques chèvres curieuses nous regardent passer...
Nous nous arrêtons pour voir le Kouros, statue couchée d'un homme. Cette statue n'a jamais été achevée.
Un peu plus loin, c'est cette magnifique mule qui nous attire... Elle ne déteste pas être prise en photo et apprécie les quelques biscuits que je lui offre.

Petit arrêt au village de Koronos, perché sur deux collines, donc très escarpé. C'est du sport, il y a des marches partout.
Nous buvons un Nescafé frappé au café du village, tout à l'ancienne.

C'est au village d'Apiranthos que nous faisons notre halte pour le pique-nique de midi, petit feuilleté aux épinards. Apiranthos est un village en marbre.

Les ruelles et passages couverts sont bien agréables.

Tout au long de notre périple, les vues sur la mer et la montagne sont superbes.

Le village de Filoti est niché sous la montagne Zas, qui culmine à 1001 mètres.

Ensuite petit arrêt dans un minuscule village (Damalas) où il y a un atelier de poterie, tenu par deux mamies bien sympathiques.

Ensuite, nous rejoignons les plages de Aliko et Pirgaki sur la côte sud-ouest.

Et retour au bercail après avoir parcouru 130 kms tout autour de l'île. Lizelle pose devant la poterie bleue que Jocelyne a achetée.

A very early stroll in the city before taking our rental car at 8.30 am. It is still very quiet in the streets.
The car we get is a red Atos and it seems to be the boss' car. It has scratches everywhere, but never mind. As long as it drives us around the island without breakdown. Furthermore, it has a high mileage, so it is definitely an old car and not meant for rental.
We start our drive from the north and we discover the eastern coast, so beautiful. There are a few beautiful coves here and there.
The island is definitely mountaineous.

We make many stops to admire the landscapes.

From time to time, we see goats by the roadside, very curious at us.

We make a stop in a small village where we greet 3 old men sitting on a bench, in the company of a cute mule.

Then, we stop at the beautiful village of Koronos, set on two hills.
After a walk in the narrow and steep streets, we make a stop at the local café.
The café is run by an old couple and it is really in the old style. We love it.

Then, we stop at the village of Apiranthos, that is more touristy. Still, it is fairly quiet as it is lunch time.

From everywhere on the island, we get wonderful views over mountains and sea.

We stop at Filoti, another nice and peaceful village.

Filoti is nestled at the feet of Mount Zas, 1001 Mt high.

Another stop in a village (Damalas) where there is a nice pottery shop. It is kept by two old ladies, so cute.

Then we drive to Aliko and Pirgaki, where there are nice beaches.
Back into town, after a 130-km trip all around the island.
Lizelle enjoys the blue pottery Jocelyne bought in the village.**************************************
